MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Madeleine Meyers kicked off the 2011 World Youth Track & Field Trials with an exciting start, as she set a new high school record in the 2,000 meter steeplechase on the first day of the combined trials and USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Updates were provided throughout the day, and can be reviewed below: World Youth Track and Field Trials Boy's 3,000m Boy's shot put Girls discus throw Steeplechase Boy's pole vault Girls' long jump USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships Multi-events 2,000m steeplechase South Orange County Wildcat team member Drake Johnston brought his club its first win of the meet by winning the intermediate boys steeplechase in 6:29.08. In the young men's division, Joshua Espinoza of Deer Valley won by nearly 22-seconds to brake the tape in 6:10.48. Race walk Isis Welch of Metropolis Track Club was the winner of the youth girls' category with a time of 22:10.90, and Andy Vasquez of the Cornhusker Flyers was the youth boys' winner in 18:18.51. In the boys' intermediate 3,000m race walk, Travis Menghini won in 19:31.25, while Texas Titans Track Club's Sierrah Martinez walked away with the win in 21:50.47. Michael Leong claimed the title in the bantam boys' age group with a time of 11:51.06. Rileigh Powers won the bantam girls' race walk with a time of 9:31.53. Ryan McCulskey of the Comets Track Club won the midget boys' 1,500m race walk in a time of 10:00.98, while Central Florida Track Club's Jenna Terry took the title on the girls' side in 8:44.33.
