Update from the European Athletics Convention 2008 – European Athletics (EAA) – NEWS

Key athletics decision makers from all over Europe have been gathered in Amsterdam this week for the European Athletics Convention.

The Convention programme was designed to expand the original European Athletics Calendar Conference into an annual meeting point for European Athletic Member Federations offering additional opportunities for education, networking and socialising.

European Athletics has been delighted by record numbers of attendance at the Conventions many meetings, including the first One-Day Meeting Organisers Forum that took place on Thursday.
 
The forum addressed the categorisation of meetings, mandatory events to be held at the meetings, categorisation of the athletes depending on their position in world lists and integration of stakeholders (athletes, managers, meet organisers, federations, coaches, media and TV).

The Moscow Open, planned for the Russian capital city for July 1, was awarded the status of European Athletics Outdoor Premium Meeting. This means that Russia will join Greece, Italy, Poland and Spain in hosting two of the highest category of European Athletics Meetings.

The European Athletics Outdoor Classic Meeting category has two new editions: the Pavel Pavlov Meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria (June 27) and the Pedro´s Cup of Szczecin in Poland (Sep 2).

The Swedish Indoor Meeting Samsunggalan of Gothenburg has been integrated into the European Athletics Indoor Permit meetings.  The sprints and jumps competition , planned for Jan 29 will be held in the venue for the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships.

The first European Athletics Convention culminates tonight in Amsterdam's beautiful Koepelkerk, where Europe's finest athletes and Rising Stars of the future will be awarded the titles of Waterford Crystal European Athlete of the Year and Waterford Crystal European Athletics Rising Stars of 2008.
