The NYC Half Will Be Broadcast Live on Race Day – NYRR TV to feature original programming during race week, as well as race-day broadcast on Sunday, March 20, 2011

NEW YORK — For the first time in its six-year history, the NYC Half will be broadcast live on the New York Road Runners website, it was announced by NYRR president and CEO Mary Wittenberg.

In addition to the race-day broadcast, New York Road Runners Live and New York Road Runners Daily Cool Down, beginning on Thursday, March 17, 2011 will preview all of the action. Powered by Livestream, NYRR will host the broadcast on their channel, www.tv.nyrr.org

“The week’s programming, beginning with New York Road Runners Live along with the Daily Cool Down, and concluding with the race-day broadcast, will give fans a 360-degree look at the athletes and all of the excitement of race week,” said Wittenberg. “We are committed at NYRR to presenting the best and most innovative programming in our sport.”

Viewers will be able to tune in at 7:15 a.m, on Sunday, March 20, 2011 to www.tv.nyrr.org to view the race. With a host of U.S. stars including Ryan Hall, Meb Keflezighi, Galen Rupp, and Kara Goucher, ready to race against tough international competition including reigning ING New York City Marathon champions Gebre Gebremariam of Ethiopia and Edna Kiplagat of Kenya, as well as Great Britain’s Mo Farah and Jo Pavey, it will be a race not to miss. Award-winning sportscaster Bruce Beck and former London Times Olympics and athletics writer David Powell will call the action.

Beck and Powell will also host New York Road Runners Live on Thursday, March 17, and Friday, March 18, 2011, at 12:00 p.m. New York Road Runners Live provides an insider’s look at the 2011 NYC Half with analysis, in-depth discussions on the latest news, and updates and interviews with athletes, guest experts, and coaches.

United States Olympian Carrie Tollefson will host New York Road Runners Daily Cool Down, which will be shown Thursday, March 17, through Sunday, March 20, 2011, at 7 p.m. New York Road Runners Daily Cool Down is an all-access pass to the 2011 NYC Half, which will include exclusive interviews with elite athletes and inspirational running stories and celebrity encounters.

The NYC Half will again offer the largest half-marathon prize purse in the United States: $100,000. The men’s and women’s champions will each earn $20,000, the largest first-prize checks for a non-marathon race in the country. The race continues to attract leading professional athletes and recreational runners from around the world. In 2010, more than 11,000 runners finished.

On a course designed to celebrate New York City, the NYC Half will take runners on a loop through Central Park, down Seventh Avenue through Times Square, across 42nd Street, and along the expansive West Side Highway to Battery Park in the heart of the city’s financial district, finishing with a view of the Statue of Liberty.
