Sweden's current athletics sweetheart, Susanna Kallur, will top the bill tonight at the GE Galan International Athletics Meeting in the Stockholm Globe Arena (SWE) in front of over 10,000 spectators.
A win tonight would make Kallur's 2008 win-streak six out of six competitions, including her World Indoor record performance in Karlsruhe. Following their success in Moscow last weekend European Cup gold and silver medallists, Josephine Onyia (ESP) and Yauhenia Valadzko (BLR), are Kallur's competition, however the Swede's current performance statistics far outrank the rest of the Sprint Hurdles field.
A total of 12 international events are organised for the evening, including two exciting 800m challenges with 800m Olympic Champion Yuriy Borzakovskiy, who has a long history of competing at this meeting where three times he has set the 800m World leading time for the season (the current lead time is his own 1:45.58 finish from Stuttgart).
The Women's 800m will feature reigning European 800m Champion Olga Kotlyarova (RUS) and Spain's World 800m bronze medallist Maite Martínez, who will be looking to improve on her bronze medal finish in Moscow last weekend.
European Indoor Cup winner, Johan Wissman will compete for the host nation in the 400m, while in the field, reigning European Indoor and Olympic Champion will fly the Swedish flag in the High Jump.
Holm is attempting to make this his 119th meeting where he clears 2.30+ and with such a highly competitive field the Swede should certainly be able to find the motivation to aim ever higher.
The women's Long Jump is a wide open competition, featuring World Indoor Champion Tatyana Kotova (RUS), her compatriot and European Outdoor Champion Lyudmila Kolchanova, Portugal's European Indoor Champion Naide Gomes, Olympic silver medallist Russian Irina Simagina and the original golden girl of Swedish athletics, Multi-event legend, Carolina Klüft.
In the woman's High Jump, the loss of local legend Kajsa Bergqvist will be obvious, however both Osaka number two's Antonietta Di Martino (ITA) and Anna Chicherova (RUS) will be out in force and ready to do battle.
The men's Pole Vault will once again showcase top German Vaulters Tim Lobinger and Danny Ecker, who will have to improve on their current form to tackle Russia's World-leader Yevgeniy Lukyanenko (5.85m). Their could also be a surprise Swedish performance from Alhaji Jeng, the 2006 World Indoor silver medallist was out through injury for 2007, but has been showing a gradual return to form in his last recent competitions.
