Shobukhova to run London Marathon – European Athletics (EAA) – NEWS
European 5000m record holder Lilya Shobukhova has announced her Marathon debut will be in London next year.
The 30-year-old Middle Distance specialist will take to the streets of London on April 26 along with the usual impressive elite woman’s field.
"I’m switching next year from track to road. It will be tough to debut at one of the best Marathons in the world, but I’m in a training group with Galina Bogomolova and I can learn a lot from her" said Shobukhova at a recent interview.
The Russian has been dipping her toe in the longer distances over the last year, taking part in three half marathons, winning two of them (last year in Praha 1:11:14 and this year in Philadelphia 1:10:21) and finishing 25th at the World Championships in Udine (1:11:35) last year.
