QUANTICO, Va. – The "School of Rock" will take center stage at the RunStock 5K, an evening running and musical experience on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011.

As part of the MCM Event Series, the RunStock 5K (3.1 miles) offers the opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy an evening of exercise for the body and music for the soul. RunStock will include a beer garden and concessions including Gunny's BBQ at the finish. Registration for the RunStock 5K is $35 and just $5 for those nine and under.

Registration is open at www.marinemarathon.com. All participants will receive a RunStock 5K concert-style T-shirt, hospitality, an evening of free entertainment and a cold Michelob Ultra for all those runners of legal age.

Starting at 7 p.m. at Marine Corps Base Quantico's Butler Stadium, the RunStock 5K course moves along the scenic streets of Quantico, including the historical Quantico Town and runs parallel to the Potomac River.

Live entertainers will perform along the course with a 90-minute concert at the finish by the "School of Rock," made famous by actor Jack Black, who portrayed School of Rock founder Paul Green in the 2003 movie, "School of Rock." The students, ages 10 to 16, perform a variety of classic and modern rock hits while bringing their musical talents and love of performing to the stage.

These musicians attend local Schools of Rock in Ashburn and Vienna, Va. The School of Rock includes all aspects of music education including theory, skill development, performance and music appreciation. Below is a list of the additional entertainers performing at the RunStock 5K:

Big Green Cherry – This original alternative rock band is familiar to Washington, D.C. music lovers. These post-punk rockers sing about peace and sustainability.

Bruiser – A band of cool rockers from Fredericksburg, Va., Bruiser performs classic chart toppers from the 60's, 70's and 80's in their own unique style.

Cheap Therapy – This Fairfax, Va,-based band formed plays a variety of rock and pop music spanning four decades.

Doug Marshall Band – The Doug Marshall Band performs the best of the Bluegrass sound, drawing its members from the hills and hollers of Virginia.

Madrone – This Virginia-area band combines intricate riffs, earth-shaking drums, driving bass and impassioned vocals to form their unique sound. Madrone's most recent single, "Daybreak" gained nationwide radio play, achieving #50 on the rock charts in April 2010.

The RunStock 5K will be held within a festival-style atmosphere with areas for picnic blankets, lawn chairs and concessions for purchase at Butler Stadium.
