The stopwatch that timed Roger Bannister's first sub-four minute-mile went for £97,250 in auction at Christie's on Monday.
The watch was donated by Jeffrey Archer along with other items including Margaret Thatcher's handbag and a rugby ball that was used in the World Cup.
The money for the watch will go to Oxford University AC and the watch will go to Omega Museum in Switzerland.
