Why not find yourself a mid-week race while the nights are still light? There are still plenty to choose from on the calendar.

Here are just a few:

Next week

Cape Cornwall Caper

The fourth race in the DAN 5k series this race is undoubtebly being held in one of the most stunning parts of England let alone Cornwall. For those taking on the challenge of racing along hilly and undulating country and cliff paths, there is the added bonus of having a leisure resort as race HQ to recover at, post race. The ethos of the series is to allow runners of all abilities and across a good range of ages to take part in it, and this race in particular will cater very well for family entries and first time runners. For the seasoned club and independent runners it will also offer up the opportunity to use the resorts many facilities to enjoy some good post-race active recovery facilities.

The following week

Stan Curran Birthday Reservoir Race

Help Stan Curran of Salford Harriers celebrate his birthday, 30 years after he won the 1st British ‘Pony’ Marathon in 1981. Proceeds will go to Whitworth Branch Cancer Research UK. This wheel measured 5K takes in two laps of the scenic Cowm Reservoir.

Forest Flyer 5

Nearly 5 miles completely off-road running through the beautiful surroundings of Haldon Forest Park near Exeter. Contrary to popular belief this route is not flat!

The last week in August/first week in September

Tuesday 30 August

Derek Ibbotson 5k

Yorkshire running legend, Derek Ibbotson MBE, will start this year's Littleborough Lions 5k and the race has been renamed in his honour to the Derek Ibbotson 5k. Derek won bronze for the 5000m in the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956. He then went on to set a new world record for the mile in 1957 (3:57.2). It was the first time it had been broken since Roger Bannister and then John Landy broke through the 4 minute barrier in 1954.

Wednesday 31 August

Promenade 5k series

This is a single lap course which is flat, fast and virtually traffic free.

Samphire Hoe Summer 5k series

This is the fourth race in this new Summer evening series in the unique setting of Samphire Hoe – a nationally important and protected landscape in the shadow of the iconic White Cliffs of Dover. Samphire Hoe is one of the few places that you can truly appreciate the drama of the White Cliffs. Great care has been taken to make the landscape at Samphire Hoe fit in this dramatic setting.
