AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. – Registration is now open for the new Catalina Island Conservancy Marathon, which takes place on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
The race will be run on the thrilling course through the Island's rugged wilderness enjoyed by runners for decades. To register, go to www.catalinaconservancy.org, click on "Catalina Races" and proceed to registration.
As a bonus, you will be running to support Catalina Island's exceptional wildlands – a full 100 percent of the net proceeds goes toward protecting and restoring the Nature Preserve that makes this race so special, and to other Island charities! This important work includes protecting the endangered Catalina Island fox, enhancing bald eagle habitat, managing the herd of iconic bison, and protecting the more than 50 plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world. In addition, all expenses associated with your participation in this charitable race may be fully tax deductible-find details on the Conservancy website.
The Conservancy owns and stewards 88 percent of Catalina Island-a full 42,000-acre nature preserve balancing conservation, education and recreational access as part of its mission. The new Catalina Island Conservancy Marathon, the new Catalina Island Conservancy Half-Marathon (visit www.catalinaconservancy.org for details), the existing Catalina Eco-Marathon and the existing Avalon Benefit 50-Mile Run (sponsored by the Lion's Club of Avalon) will have exclusive access to the Catalina Island Conservancy's land for distance races while facing the ultimate endurance test.
Pacific Sports, the most recent manager of the Catalina Marathon, is not associated in any way
with the Catalina Island Conservancy Marathon.
