New 5K Race Added to the 2011 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon – Registration now underway for Saturday, May 14, 2011 race
DENVER – The 2011 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon has added a new 5K race to round out a whole weekend of fun and festivities. Presented by Primrose Schools, the Colfax 5K race will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in City Park. It's a timed event for adults and kids – with an official shortcut for those looking for shorter distances.
"It's a timed event for those regular runners striving for a personal record, or a great introduction to racing for a first-time runner," said Andrea Dowdy, Executive Director of the race for the second year.
"We added the 5K because our runners asked for it," said Race Director Creigh Kelley. "We strive to provide a wealth of resources to help get anyone to the start line in an active, healthy and fun way. Walking the Colfax 5K is an easily attainable first step."
Registration is $30 ($20 for children under 12 and seniors over 65) and includes a race T-shirt, youth activities and finish line food. After the race, participants can watch more than 1000 youth complete the ‘Final Mile' of their own personal marathon with Kids Running America. This program provides children with training and activities in advance of the race, allowing them to complete a full marathon, one mile at a time. Kaiser Permanente has provided a grant allowing 300 underserved youth to participate in this event free of cost.
A portion of the proceeds for the Colfax 5K will go to the Denver Post Community Foundation, which supports Denver area nonprofits in the areas of basic human services, youth, literacy, and the arts.
Online registration is now open at www.runcolfax.org. Follow the race on Twitter @runcolfax or become at Fan on Facebook @Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon.
