Munich 2018 today brings its successful week in Lausanne to a close, as the bid's presentation room opens its doors for the world's media to experience a taste of Bavarian hospitality.
Munich 2018's evocative Technical Presentation to the IOC yesterday was bookended by two important announcements: the resolution of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen landowners question on Tuesday and Germany's Head of State, Christian Wulff, confirming his attendance at the IOC session in Durban on Wednesday.
Chair of the Munich 2018 Bid Committee, Katarina Witt, gave her thoughts on a productive period in the Olympic capital:
‘Spending time here in the home of the modern Olympic Movement has been so inspiring. With the other great pieces of news we've had this week we'll be taking momentum and even greater optimism to our preparations for Durban.'
Today's informal gathering at Munich 2018's alpine-themed exhibition booth will give visitors the chance to experience the Festival of Friendship concept first-hand. The Bid Committee's team of experts, backed up by a wide range of multimedia resources, will be on hand to answer questions and discuss why Munich 2018 is the right bid at the right time for the Olympic Movement.
CEO of the Munich 2018 Bid Committee, Bernhard Schwank, commented on the positive mood in the Bid Committee camp:
‘We knew that the Technical Presentation in Lausanne was an excellent opportunity to really engage with IOC members, so we have all worked very hard to make sure the strengths of our compact, athlete friendly and sustainable concept really stood out. I think that the hard work has paid off.'
