By GRR 0
The second Lincoln Half Marathon took place yesterday, 1st October 2017, and proved to be a fantastic day of sporting celebration for runners from near and far.

The grey autumn skies and rain did nothing to dampen spirits as the runners gathered at the Lincolnshire Showground to take on the 13.1-mile,closed road course through historic Lincoln. The race started at 9.30am and took the runnersthrough Burton Waters, along the Fossdyke Canal, through Brayford Wharf, up to the impressive landmarks of Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle and back to the Showground. The rain had stopped by the time the winners crossed the finish line, and the last runners were even welcomed back with some sunshine.

Plenty of spectators came out to show their support and cheer on the competitors at this friendly race that enjoyed a successful debut with OSB Events in 2016.The attractive course, historic setting and smooth organisation brought back many runners from last year as well as plenty from further afield wanting to run a first-class event in this beautiful East Midlands city. The local running clubs were also well represented in their hometown race.

Many charity vests were visible among the running crowd, with a good number running to raise money for the two official race charities, Cancer Research UK and The Ethan Maull ‘Up Yours to Cancer’ Foundation.

A team of pacers was on hand to help runners pace their race to perfection, resulting in many runners successfully crossing the finish line within their target times.

Matt Bowser (handicap -3.2) dominated the men’s race and holds on to the title after claiming the win in a time of 1:10:46, an exact five minute gap ahead of runner up Sean Fitzpatrick (handicap -1.4). Local athlete Adam Baker (handicap -0.6 )  of Lincoln Wellington AC claimed the third spot on the podium after crossing the finish line in 1:16:23.

The women’s field was dominated by Claire Cooney who secured the title in 1:32:09. Local triathlete Beth Wilmot of Tri-Money.Com came second in a time of 1:33:21, and Rebecca Beasley  of Kenilworth Runners took third place in 1:34:09.
