The Meeting Herculis EBS is always a big - Header: Organisers hit with athletes
HERCULIS EBS: Monaco a home from home for Karsten Warholm
The road to the World Championships in Budapest will take the athletes via Monaco. In fact, for certain athletes, it might well serve as a final test run just one month to the day before the summer event. Such is the case for Karsten Warholm, who intends to give himself a confidence boost on Monégasque soil on 21 July.
The Meeting Herculis EBS is always a big hit with athletes due to its favourable conditions and what is considered by many to be a quick track. This 21 July should be no exception to the rule and the 400m hurdles is sure to be one of the evening’s star attractions in the presence of Karsten Warholm, world record holder in the discipline and the season’s top performer.
Karsten Warholm is the strongman of the 400m hurdles so it’s no surprise that every one of his appearances comes under scrutiny. Upon his return in Oslo last Thursday, he posted an impressive time of 46“52, improving on the second best performance of the season by over a second. Last time he ran at the Louis II Stadium, in 2021, he set a new meeting record of 47“08. This year, spectators in Monaco may well witness him putting on another great show and breaking his own meeting record…
Pitted against him will be Wilfried Happio, his European number two last year in Munich. The Frenchman has been constantly setting a new season’s best over recent meetings (48“13 in Oslo too). As a result, he might well take inspiration from the Norwegian and score a few more points before Budapest.
Meeting record: 47’’08 – Karsten Warholm (NOR) – 9 July 2021
World leading performance this year: 46’’52 – Karsten Warholm (NOR) – 15 June in Oslo (NOR).
