Dr. David Martin is not only the reknowned statistician of AIMS, but has also coached the successfull US long distance runners for many years. Apart from that he collects Tee shirts, some of which he has donated to the AIMS Marathon Museum, as all of them tell a story.

You cannot imagine a world without T-shirts anymore, since the 80ies they have become a "cult" object. People collect them, trade them, sell them. But most important is the message which is written on the front or back — with it the owner sends a signal and takes a stance.

Dr. Dave Martin describes:

Tee – USA Trials 1980

The USA 1980 Track and Field Trials Tee shirt was produced to commemorate the Track meet that ordinarily would have served as our competition to select the Olympic Team, however, this was the year of the BOYCOTT, and so the tee was produced in black because the USA was 'MOURNING THE DEATH" of its 1980 Olympic Team.

Tee – Athletics West

Athletics West was a club of top-class elite track and field athletes that were funded by Nike during the 1980s. It was headquartered in Eugene,, Oregon, in the far western corner of the USA,, and this explains the name. The clothing was available ONLY to members of the Athletics West club, and thus were highly prized. Rising costs of maintaining such a club forced its demise.

Tee – Atlanta Track Club

The logo of the Atlanta Track Club – second largest running club in the USA after the New York Road Runners CLub, – reflects the history of the city in which it is located. This is the "phoenix rising out of the ashes"
which refers to the city of Atlanta rising back to prosperity after the Civil War of 1861-1865 which saw the city burned to the ground.

Tee – IAAF world XC

The Colombier-Suisse tee shirt was presented to each athlete participating in the IAAF world XC Championships of 1986. This was the 14th running of the IAAF world xc meet, held in Colombier, Switzerland.
