Hérouville France, 10 June 2011 – Three South African athletes participated in the event and the results were as follows.
After the completion of both 100m heats the outcome looked clear, but things are never certain and all athletes know that it is not over until you cross the finish line in the final. Hannes Dreyer looked promising after winning his heat in 10.42sec, his closest competitor coming in at 10.95sec. Thuso Mpuang won his heat in 10.46sec while second place Berenger-aymar Bosse (Caf) finished in 10.53sec.
In a final with barely anything between the top 3, Thuso Mpuang and Hannes Dreyer took the top two spots on the podium. Mpuang turned the earlier results around and finished ahead of Dreyer with his time of 10.42sec. Dreyer crossed the line in 10.47sec, just ahead of Bosse who finished in 10.49sec.
Jacques de Swardt ran in the 400m but did not finish in the top 3. The race was won by Michael Mathieu (BAH) with his 46.98sec victory followed by Edino Steele (JAM) who finished in 47.55sec. Third place was taken by Angel Chelala (47.68sec). De Swardt crossed the line in 48.32sec to finish in the 4th place.
The 200m athlete Carina Horn also made South Africa proud as she finished second (24.57sec).
She was narrowly beaten by Russian athlete Yekaterina Vukolova. Vukolova finished the race in 24.33sec.
