Derval O'Rourke (Leevale AC) has achieved the qualification standard for both the World Track and Field Championships in Daegu and the London 2012 Olympics running an impressive seasonal best of 12.85 (+.5 wind) to finish second at the Chaux du Fonds in Switzerland today.
Amy Foster set a new personal best in the 100 metres of 11.52 when finishing third. She went on to run 23.4 seconds in the 200m for second place which is her fastest ever time although wind aided (+3.0). Niamh Whelan finished third in another 200m final in a seasonal best of 23.87 (wind +1.1) which is inside the standard for the U23 European Championships of 24.10. Whelan had achieved the 100m standard earlier in the week in Lausanne when she ran 11.72.
The Irish women's 4×100m team improved on their time of 45.71 in Lausanne running 45.49.
The team was Derval O'Rourke, Claire Bergin, Niamh Whelan and Ailis McSweeney. In the 400m hurdles Justine Kinney produced a good performance running 57.92.
