Although it is the biggest race of the day it is the only AIMS event in Asia – but no less than three are held in Africa: the Kilimanjaro Marathon in Tanzania; the Sunyang Eco-healing Seychelles Marathon; and the Maritzburg Marathon in South Africa.
The 14th edition of the Verdimarathon is held in Salsomaggiore, Italy, the World Best 10km takes place i San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Sao Paulo International Half Marathon is run through the streets of Brazil's biggest city.
With five continents represented by races on Sunday a sixth – Antarctica – takes the stage on 28 February, with the Antarctica Marathon being held on King George Island. On the same day, but a climatic world away, the Sahara Marathon is run through the Sahrawi refugee camps of south-west Algeria..
