Welcome to the Cork City Sports website. We were especially pleased last July to have once more promoted a major track & field meeting in Cork to celebrate the 59th staging of the renowned Cork City Sports. This year, we celebrate our 60th event.

Thirty countries from all over the world were represented at Ireland's EAA Outdoor Permit Meeting. Many more world-ranked athletes are expected to compete in Cork next July as the reputation of the country's only annual International Athletic Meeting has spread across the globe.  We are extremely pleased to be part of the Euromeetings programme and are already looking forward to a wonderful day of competition on 2nd July 2011, when we celebrate the 60th staging of the Cork City Sports.

The following events will take place at the 60th Cork City Sports International Track & Field Meeting on Saturday 2nd of July at the Cork Institute of Technology Athletic Stadium, Bishopstown, Cork:

MEN: 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, 3000m, 400mH, High Jump, Long Jump, Pole vault, 1500m(Junior)

WOMEN: 100m, 400m, 1500m, 100mH, High Jump, Long Jump, Hammer

3k Walk (Men and Women)

This year's Sports will include a Juvenile 300m Gala, a series of underage 300m races for boys and girls in all age groups U9-U16. The Gala will precede the senior international programme, commencing at 12 noon. All juvenile athletes are welcome to take part, and must enter online in advance. No entries will be taken on the day of the Sports. Online entry is now closed.

 Olympic Silver Medallist Nick Willis Heading For Cork         

    
New Zealander Nick Willis who gained the silver medal in Beijing over the classic 1500m distance will compete at the 60th.Cork City Sports on 2nd.July at the CIT Athletic Stadium.

The flying Kiwi who has run the distance in 3mins.32.17sec. showed his current good form with a solid 3: 36. 46 clocking at the recent New York Grand Prix in his build up for the World Championships in Korea in late August. He stands out as the one non-African athlete likely to break the African domination of this event.

With former Cork winner Barnabas Bene (Hungary) and three leading Americans Will Lear, Jack Bolas and Brandon Bethke also in the start list the leading Irish competitors, David Campbell, John Coughlan and Corkman Ciaran O'Lionard could be pushed to fast times.

Australian 800m champion James Kaan is also an interesting declared starter.

 

Olympic Gold Medallist Natasha Hastings To Compete At Cork City Sports          

Natasha Hastings won gold medals for the USA at the Olympic Games of 2008 in Beijing as a member of their all conquering 4x400m relay team. She also collected more gold medals at the World Championships of 2007 and 2009 and last year at the World Indoor Championships where she was again a key member of the American 4x400m quartet.

Hastings has a personal best of 49.84sec over 400m and has already run 50.91sec.this year. She intends using Cork as her European base for the coming weeks after competing over the one lap distance at the upcoming Cork City Sports on 2nd. July.  In Cork she will be opposed by the emerging British talent, Nadine Okyere, and Barbara Petrahn from Hungary who is a regular competitor in Cork.

TIANNA MADISON TO JUMP AT CORK CITY SPORTS         

        
Former world long jump champion, Tianna Madison, is the latest multi-talented U.S. athlete set to cross the Atlantic to compete at the 60th.Cork City Sports at the C.I.T. Athletic Stadium on 2nd.July.

The twenty five year old American struck gold at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki with a winning jump of 6.89 metres which was further than she had previously jumped and followed this with another medal winning performance the following year by taking the silver medal in Moscow at the 2006 World Indoor Championships. She recorded an impressive 6.80m.there to prove she competes at her best on the biggest stage.

National champion Kelly Proper from Waterford who always performs well in Cork will mount a serious challenge to Madison. Last year's runner-up Nina Kolaric of Slovenia and England's Amy Woodman will also be in the hunt for podium positions.

Madison who has a personal best of 11.05 secs over 100m will also contest the 100m in Cork
